Migrate from Feedly to Electric Pants

Keep your feeds, ditch the subscription.

Ready to leave Feedly? Whether you’re tired of the subscription model, want more privacy, or just want a simpler experience, migrating to Electric Pants takes just a few minutes.

This guide walks you through exporting your feeds from Feedly and importing them into Electric Pants.

Why People Leave Feedly

Subscription Fatigue

Feedly’s free tier is limited. Pro costs $6/month, Pro+ costs $12/month. For reading RSS feeds — something that should be free — that adds up.

Electric Pants is completely free. No subscription, no premium tier, no in-app purchases.

Privacy Concerns

Feedly is a cloud service. Your feeds, your reading history, and your behavior are stored on their servers.

Electric Pants is private by default. No account, no data collection. Your data syncs via iCloud (which you already use) — not through our servers.

Complexity Overload

Feedly has grown complex with AI features, team boards, and newsletter integrations. Sometimes you just want to read your feeds.

Electric Pants is simple. Add feeds, read articles, see “All Caught Up” when you’re done.

No “Done” State

Feedly is designed to always have more content. There’s no satisfying endpoint.

Electric Pants shows you “All Caught Up” — a deliberate design to help you stop when you’re done.

Step 1: Export from Feedly

Feedly stores your feeds in OPML format — a universal standard for RSS subscriptions. Here’s how to export:

On the Web

  1. Go to feedly.com and log in
  2. Click your profile picture (bottom left)
  3. Select Organize Sources
  4. Click the menu (three dots) in the top right
  5. Select Export to OPML
  6. Save the file to your computer

On Mobile

The export option isn’t available in Feedly’s mobile app. Use the web version instead.

You can also go directly to: feedly.com/i/opml

This downloads your complete feed list as an OPML file.

Step 2: Get the File to Your iPhone/iPad

If you exported on a computer, you’ll need to get the OPML file to your iOS device. Options:

  • AirDrop — The easiest if you have a Mac
  • iCloud Drive — Upload to iCloud, access from Files app
  • Email — Send the file to yourself, open on your device
  • Dropbox/Google Drive — Upload and download on your device

The file will typically be named feedly.opml or similar.

Step 3: Import into Electric Pants

  1. Download Electric Pants if you haven’t already
  2. Open Electric Pants
  3. Go to Settings (gear icon)
  4. Tap Import OPML
  5. Select your Feedly export file from the Files picker
  6. Wait for the import to complete

Electric Pants will import all your feeds and create folders based on your Feedly categories.

Step 4: Organize Your Feeds

After import, you might want to reorganize:

Review Your Folders

Your Feedly categories become folders in Electric Pants. Check that the organization makes sense for how you want to read.

Customize Folder Appearance

Electric Pants lets you assign colors and icons to folders:

  1. Go to Settings → Folders
  2. Tap a folder to edit
  3. Choose a color and icon that fits the category

Remove Dead Feeds

Some feeds may no longer be active. If a feed consistently shows errors, consider removing it.

Step 5: Enjoy the Difference

Once your feeds are imported, start reading. Here’s what’s different:

The “All Caught Up” Screen

When you’ve read all new articles, Electric Pants shows you a satisfying “All Caught Up” screen. This is the endpoint Feedly never gave you.

No Login Required

You don’t need to remember a password or maintain an account. The app just works.

Pull to Refresh

Pull down on your feed to check for new articles. Electric Pants shows progress as it fetches from all your sources.

Beautiful Cards

Images, videos, and galleries display beautifully in card layouts — no more clicking through to see media.

FAQ

Will my Feedly account still work?

Yes. Exporting OPML doesn’t delete anything from Feedly. You can keep using Feedly while you try Electric Pants.

Can I sync Electric Pants between devices?

Yes! Electric Pants syncs automatically via iCloud. Your feeds, folders, and read states stay in sync across all your iPhone and iPad devices.

What about my saved articles?

Saved articles/boards don’t export in OPML. You’ll need to manually save anything important before leaving Feedly.

Is Electric Pants really free?

Yes. No subscription, no in-app purchases, no ads. It’s completely free.

What if I want to go back to Feedly?

Electric Pants can export OPML too. Go to Settings → Export OPML and you can import your feeds back into Feedly or any other reader.
